U.S. Representative Maxine Waters has introduced legislation aimed at curbing political figures’ involvement in cryptocurrency. The "Stop Trading, Retention and Unfair Market Payoffs in crypto Act of 2025"—colloquially dubbed the "Stop TRUMP in Crypto Act"—seeks to prohibit top officials, including the president, vice president, and members of Congress, from engaging in crypto-related activities.

The bill’s timing precedes a private dinner fundraiser hosted by former President Donald Trump, which is expected to attract major donors and holders of Trump-branded meme coins. Waters’ proposal explicitly targets potential conflicts of interest and foreign influence through politically linked crypto ventures.
